No-Scalpel Vasectomy

No-Scalpel Vasectomy

Unintended pregnancy can cause severe disruption to life plans. If you have decided not to have children in the future after careful consideration, vasectomy is a safe and effective permanent contraceptive method.

Sex after Vasectomy

Vasectomy (also called male sterilisation) is a simple surgical procedure to cut or block the vas deferens – the small tubes in your scrotum that carry sperm, therefore blocking sperm from getting to your semen. A vasectomy does not affect:

  • Your sexual function or ejaculation;
  • The production of male hormones in your testes;
  • The volume, colour or smell of your semen.

A Safe and Effective Birth Control Option

Compared to tubal ligation performed on women, vasectomy is a much safer and much less invasive procedure. It is also one of the most effective methods of birth control, with a long-term success rate of nearly 99.9%, which is significantly higher than other contraceptive methods such as male condoms, pills and implants.

No-Scalpel Vasectomy

In a no-scalpel vasectomy, which is adopted at our centre, the doctor makes a tiny puncture of about 3 to 5mm on your scrotum to access the vas deferens, and to sever and seal the duct. The puncture in the skin is so small that no stitches are necessary, thereby reducing the risk of complications such as infection and bleeding.

No-Needle Anesthesia

We offer no-needle anesthesia to those with needle-phobia – men who have fear of local anesthetic injection by needles. The technique of jet anesthesia enables us to anesthetise the area of the procedure without a needle, reducing the anxiety and discomfort associated with conventional anesthesia. Using a jet injector, the anesthetic is sprayed into the area of the procedure in a quick and even manner. This also prevents scrotal swelling, resulting in improved accuracy of the procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions

A vasectomy will have no impact on your sexual function or sexual health. You can resume sexual activity one week after the procedure.

No, sperm may still be present in your semen for a certain period of time. Normally, you will go sperm-free after 15 to 20 ejaculations. It is therefore important to use other contraceptive methods for a few months after your vasectomy, and undergo semen tests as instructed.

You may choose to redo the test after a certain period of time. In the unlikely event that sperm is still present in your semen in two consecutive semen tests, we may perform one more vasectomy for you free of charge.

Small titanium clips are used to occlude and seal off the vas deferens. Usually no stitches are required in closing the small skin wound. You should keep the surgical site clean and dry during the recovery period. We recommend that you wear tight-fitting underwear for a few days after the procedure to reduce the risk of bleeding.

For the first few days after a vasectomy, you may feel some discomfort in your testicles. In rare cases, swelling, oozing and bruising of the surgical site may occur. It usually gets better in one or two weeks; otherwise, seek medical attention as soon as possible.

Absolutely not. Castration is the removal of one or both testes, while vasectomy has nothing to do with the testes. There is no direct impact on your male hormone production, sexual function, or any other aspects of ‘manhood’.
